Impact/Purpose:

This presentation will be delivered to the NPS Program Natural Hazard Mitigation and Climate Workgroup, a group lead by EPA that includes States and Tribes. Objectives of the presentation are to summarize EPA research and initiate a dialogue of EPA, State, and Tribal water quality modeling needs related to climate change. Projects included in this presentation will address topics of interest specific to this NPS workgroup, with an emphasis on water quality and watershed modeling using EPA tools, including the Coastal Generalized Ecosystem Model (CGEM) and Hydrologic and Water Quality System (HAWQS).

Description:

Climate change and it's impact on watersheds and water quality is an primary concern of resource managers at the regional, state, and federal level. This presentation provides a high-level overview of EPA water quality modeling projects and tools in the context of climate change. The research presented includes multiple EPA projects, with ORD projects focused on Coastal Generalized Ecosystem Model (CGEM) modeling in the northern Gulf of Mexico and Aquatox modeling of aquatic ecosystems. The presentation will highlight publicly available EPA tools for resource managers to use in adapting to climate change concerns.
